We like a lot of the same bands but it seems like we'd never pick the same songs. I think Jordan the Comeback is a great album but I really hate "Doo Wop in Harlem"

I think they're a really good band though. A little odd to me to see an american refer to the "Two Wheels Good" album as "Steve McQueen" Do you have the import version? I'm assuming its not any different other than the title. I saw today that they supposedly have a new album coming out in Feb.

I used to have Two Wheels Good on vinyl but got Steve McQueen on Amazon a couple years back.

Also, Cher covered "The Gunman" but I haven't dared to track it down and listen.

Here's a Feelies Tenner

allmusic.com Wrote:
Of the countless bands to emerge from the New York City underground during the post-punk era, few if any were as unique and influential as the Feelies; nerdy, nervous, and noisy, even decades later their droning, skittering avant-garde pop remains a key touchstone of the American indie music scene. Named in reference to Aldous Huxley's paranoid classic Brave New World...

Rainy Sunday Music.
Innocence Mission is one of the few acts I think consistently make exquisite gentle songs without succumbing to whiny self-absorption.
They're about vignette captured timeless, texture and precise lyrical moment instead of folk yittering.
And Karen Peris has THAT VOICE, the way Harriet Wheeler, Margot Timmins, Hope Sandoval or David Sylvian have THAT VOICE.

Dalen and Polly, if you aren't already familiar, you might like this.

That's pretty much the best picture of Karen I've ever seen. Good choice of songs too....though my selections from Birds of My Neighborhood would've likely been different.

It's unfortunate that the height of their commercial exposure seems to be when they were being played as background music in the movie, Empire Records, during that scene when the depressed bald girl is sitting on the shitter.

It's even more unfortunate that I know the movie well enough to remember that happening.

"I Remember Me" and "Black Sheep Wall" got notice early in their career but The Sundays broke the following year and many people started saying Peris was a Wheeler sound alike (instead of a peer whose debut album came out first).

Also, people thought "Bright As Yellow" was a Mazzy Star song.

But it doesn't seem like either Peris was much interested in the promotional dedication it takes to stay celebrities.

I remember watching this Letterman appearance almost 20 years ago:

Also, the odd but sweet pairing of Mr. Bean and "When Mac Was Swimming":

when you say 'vocal tenner' do you mean it's a Sting-ish vocals-only selection a la the Leaving Las Vegas soundtrack?

i'm asking rather than just DLing because i've already downloaded almost 250 of these and my hard drive hates me...

I mean that it's Sylvian songs and not Sylvian instrumentals.

He has more ambient pieces than songs. These are all songs.

I've knew a guy that was trying to get me to listen to Silver Sun ten years ago, but for whatever reason they never stuck until this week. But, man, they done stuck good. This is what I always hoped Jellyfish would sound like back when I hadn't heard them yet - ultra melodic, kinda Queen/Beach Boys harmonies-upon-harmonies, and the fuzz, buzz, and momentum of punk. Oh yeah, this is power pop, but the type that doesn't shirk from the word "power" and just puts the pedal to the metal and rocks. Plain awesome, in other words.

5. I'll See You Around

how the hell is this thread still going on? For christ's sake Spoon, some of these bands are GONE on PURPOSE. Let Talk Talk and The The lapse into the same pile of terrible and drift away into the void.
