this.
I have over 5000 CD's and with two kids and their toys, I am sure my future home will see their stuff be a priority then me showcasing a dead format for my ego, while I primarily listen to stuff digitally anyway...
My purge is simply getting rid of CD's that I am content with 'owning' via digital or streaming services only , while I will be keeping the stuff I really like or love.....I figure there are at least 2000 CD's of mine that I am fine listening to via Spotify or whatever download / illegal source link I can find.
I have har drives which I am making copies of the stuff i intend to get rid of, and should they die, I will still be able to sleep at night...

Hard drives get corrupted. I'm keeping my CDs for a long while.
I'm not converting to all digital either. I don't think that's what Dov is talking about though. I think most of us have at various times, gone through our collections and sold off/traded in stuff that we don't like much anymore or don't think we'll ever listen to again. Its just hard to find anyone who wants to pay much for cds anymore whether in cash or store credit. I actually just threw away about 30-50 cds in the last year that I knew I didn't want anymore and didn't think we were trying to sell or trade in. Once upon a time, I could trade any five cds in for enough credit to buy a new cd. Now, they'd probably say "no interest" to 40 of those, and offer me pocket change for the rest. If I had 1000 I wanted to get rid of, I'd probably try to find a better answer.
