I'll be in Denver Friday and Saturday with only my evenings spoken for. What is there to do for a music, beer, quirk and art loving guy?

I've made two trips to Denver for concerts at Red Rocks, but they were both less than 24 hours.

e-stone, others familiar with the city, help an Ob out...

Falling Rock Tap House for beers.

I've had some of the best Mexican food in my life in Denver. Lots of good spots.

Been a while since I've been out there.

You going solo?

If I had a full Saturday in January, I'd be REAL tempted to take a shuttle out very early and do a half day skiing.

My suggestion:
Hit up a corner store for a sixpack, watch netflix.

where are you staying? i think you may have already visited Great Divide on a previous visit?

there are a slew of new breweries in the last 1-2 years, my favorite of which is Denver Beer Company. the weather is supposed to be pretty nice this weekend too, so this place should be hopping. River North Brewery is pretty cool too.

despite living less than 30 minutes away, we don't hit the "big city" very often. Westword is a great place to check out what's happening around the city. you are a little early for legal GWEEG as they are still trying to figure it all out, though Club 64, the first private mj social club did open on new years day.

i've had a great lunch at Bones...Euclid Hall is pretty great too - the chef was on this season of Top Chef (well he got sent home on the first episode but still). sorry i don't have a ton of good insider info...check that Westword though for specific things going on this weekend.

what time are you getting in? i'll be at DIA around 1 getting ready to head out to Park City for the weekend.

J, I get in tomorrow AM. Thanks for the heads up on the new breweries. I actually didn't hit up Great Divide last time through, but plan to on this trip

I'm staying at The Curtis downtown.

I'm going to head to Denver Film Center tomorrow afternoon to see Gregory Crewdson: Brief Encounters because it's not playing at our local arthouse, and I'm a huge fan of his.

I'm familiar with Westword so I'm sure I'll be attached to it via iPhone.

Thanks for the food recs Ramenamen

Based on Phil's suggestion, I'm hitting Snooze for breakfast on Saturday. Will check out the beer joints and other spots for lunch.

I was reading Imbibe Magazine last night and came across this article about Denver's beer scene:

I'm currently at TRVE Brewing on Broadway. Seriously my favorite Taphouse I've ever been to. Metal themed with excellent beer. I've had their Stout O))) and Diotima (smoked tea Saison).

I got the Breakfast Pot Pie and a blueberry pancake. Good stuff. I could've gone with something else and been happier.

Ate at Euclid Hall last night. It was great

Bumping this because will be in Denver in a month on a guys trip. Would love any additional recommendations not already mentioned in this thread. Or even +1's for things already mentioned that were super duper awesome.

what are the dates and where are y'all staying?

three shows on my radar (but no tix purchased as of yet):

Grizzly Bear @ The Ogden on 8/6
Kurt Vile @ The Bluebird on 8/15
My Bloody Valentine @ The Ogden on 8/19

i stand by my River North and Denver Beer Co brewery suggestions. Great Divide and River North are both walking distance to Coors Field if that is in the plans.

i'm really not a huge fan of Denver overall. i'd get into the mountains as much as possible, cruise up to Boulder and even Fort Collins if you want to check out some other pretty great smaller breweries.

a little north and west of downtown is the "Highlands" neighborhood which in my opinion is far superior for restaurants/nightlife. two places i recently had great meals:

Old Major

Lola

oh, and the Chipotle Cultivate Festival is going on at City Park on 8/17

I'll second River North Brewery.

Weird that I see this now. I was actually in Denver at the same time as you, discostu.

I dug the VanGogh display at some museum, but I think that was a travelling exhibit that's gone by now.

Tommy, I was personally a huge fan of TRVE Brewing when I was there.

Westword is the local alt-weekly

I like staying at The Curtis. If you like old-school and great hotel service, I recommend Monaco

Might as well go to Red Rocks while you're there, even if there isn't a show there when you guys are around. It's good for a hike too, and only about 20 min outside of Denver

Thanks for the recommendations so far. We are in town August 8-11 and are renting a house that appears to be in a downtown location and is walkable "to all the restaurants, bars, Coors Field, Convention Center, National Western Stock Show, LoDo, 16th Street." We are going to a Rockies game either Friday or Saturday night but not sure if we have many defined plans outside of that right now, hence this thread bump.

Phoenix is playing Red Rocks the night before we get there, but I couldn't swing another night away. As for beer, I am going to push Denver Beer Co, Great Divide, River North, and TRVE based on recommendations here. The Highlands neighborhood sounds worth looking into more. I would love to get into Boulder since a buddy and his wife from here moved there and opened up a storefront called Nod & Rose and would like to check it out but just not sure of logistically if we can get there.
