I'm guessing 70 pounds. I can pick it up, but I have to have a REALLY good reason to. But it turns like a dream and feels very light. You just don't wanna try to get it up any stairs. Climbs easy with low gearing, very stable.

THAT got me to laugh.

And I plan on overloading it just for sport, so, you know, pics to follow and such.

Rock on with her bad self. Nice.

When you finish your rattley old trek come do mine - pulled it out to resume summer bike commuting this week and it needs some loving. I have all the tools but haven't done anything to it for so long I don't think i have the feel for it anymore. Sigh.

Saturday is Bike Fixin' Day. Wife has already been notified - I will be in the back yard all day with beer and tools. Shits falling apart all around me, I can't roll like this. I sound like the goddam Sanford And Sons truck coming down the Storrow Drive path.

Saw one in person yesterday around town, and man did it look good. They got the lines right on that bike from the get-go.

Anyone ever ridden any Felt bikes?

Came across the Felt Cafe 3 this week:

http://www.suburbanbikes.com/products/felt-cafe-3-bike

3 speed, internal hub, fenders, chain guard. All for about $100 cheaper than the Linus.

May go check one out tomorrow.

I only know them from the cheap but decentish chinese road bikes. Never ridden one but that probably doesn't matter. It's aluminum, it has fenders, it has a Nexus 3 speed rear hub... That's a good deal. You could VERY easily put a Wald front basket on that and be uber-functional in seconds. It's 20% less sexy than the Linus but shit, it's pretty awesome. I vote "sure."

My first road bike was a felt z-85 and I fucking loved that bike. I'll probably buy a felt time trial bike eventually.

You don't have rain gear? I use an ortlieb "Office" waterproof bag and have regularly carried my work laptop and personal camera in deluges. On the body I go with a Mtn Hardware thin rain shell that fits on the tight side but has pit zips, and then motorcycle over-pants. I usually don't bother with my hands or feet, unless I have to wear nicer shoes, in which case I put some Sugoi shoe covers.

And good for you. You know I'm proud.

No rain gear as I'm still commuting (whenever I ride) on my road bike. Probably need a dedicated touring bike.

Still doing my research on bikes but have been overwhelmed with the move to the new house and have hemorrhaging money on all kinds of crap that the place needs so the bike purchase has taken a backseat for now.

Still, been really intrigued by all of these:

Public
Linus
Electra
Raleigh
Trek
Pashley

Found an awesome shop in Decatur that specializes in Dutch, German, Italian, and English bikes with a focus on commuters and dutch style stuff.

That sounds like a great shop, man. There is NOTHING like seeing / trying out for yourself.

- Public and Linus make cheap (relatively of course) good looking dutch / english inspired practical bikes.
- Electra used to be great and now seems to be kinda crappy from the ones I've seen in person. Like, chinese everything but still marked up a lot.
- Raleigh is capable of anything from crap to greatness. Caveat emptor.
- Trek doesn't really make anything truly shitty, but neither do they ever fully commit to the dutch / english styles, visually (my now-discontinued Belleville excepted). Quality-wise and component-wise Trek won't put out outright garbage like the other bike manufacturers often will, but they also can't stop themselves from "modernizing" the lines and materials on their bikes, and to be honest the look of the bike is important. It's not vanity or silliness - it's your bike, it's a leisure and a hobby, and it should be fun. Part of the fun is that it looks the way you want it to, it inspires you to go out and ride it. So they're functionally a safe bet, but when I look at their catalog I don't WANT any of their bikes. But that lineup changes often and I haven't looked in awhile.
- Pashley is high end stuff, and beautiful. Likely to be something where you don't tell people what you spent on it. That Guvner bike... drool. Sweet jesus, the lines are Just Right.

Friend at work has a flat. Saw it when I got back to the bike rack after a meeting. He's SWAMPED today and has no idea if/when/how he's gonna fix it. I think I'm gonna go out there and fix it for him out of pity.

Solidarity.

A kindness!

I have been rolling on some ten year old Continental GPs dreading flats with every pothole, but today discovered that I can now buy Schwalbe Marathons for my midget 650c wheels! W00t, as the kids say. Having to pay prices set for hardcore dudes with dedicated tt racers was No Fun.

The schwalbes ain't gonna be the fastest things out there, but those fuckers just Do Not Get Flats, unless you're really trying to get one. All I put on my / wife's bikes anymore. I am done fixing fucking flats every month.
