Didn't even know that Massive Attack had another album out. This time Danny The Dog, Original Movie Soundtrack. Pretty interesting in spots, especially with the whomping bass but it's varied enough to keep it interesting. Not a lot of songs per se, mainly little instrumental vignettes that I'm sure are appropriate to the storyboard. After 21 tracks I think it's safe to say that Danny isn't a friendly, loveable dog. FWIW, I don't think I can suggest that you run out and buy this (mine was impulse) unless you are a massive (no pun intended!) fan.

A lot better was the Apostle of Hustle that I first listened to on a comp from a bud on another board. Folkloric Feel is kind of like a Notwist, but with more of an edge and less pretty, at least that's my first impression. Andrew Whitman (guitarist-BSS) recorded this with the help of other BSS members in a variety of places with a variety of methods. It's kind of fun to listen to which songs were recorded in a cathedral and which ones were in a bedroom. Aside from some clever production trickery, there is an abundance of really great tracks on this album. Much better than the short samples I listened to would leave me to believe.

I put them both up on CC if you're into that sort of thing. I actually had them up before listening to both completely so hopefully some that have been so good to me will find something to grab for themselves.

Regards,
jc

I'm definitely interested in the 'Apostles of Hustle' album. I've heard the Danny The Dog album and wasn't really impressed, in fact I thought it was quite boring...but then again it is a score.

know what you mean although it's too soon for me to call it boring because even in the brief time I've spent with it a couple of spots captured my attention. I also think the silly thing sounds so good sonically that I give it a bonus point or two. Maybe a stupid point for me to make but there are entire labels that make a living off simply recording stuff well. I mean c'mon, nobody really likes those Chesky records do they?

You could very well be right. I've listened to it a couple times...but it was off the MA website. The quality was poor so I couldn't really pull anything out interesting as far as sonically. I'm a huge MA fan though, so I'm sure it's quality stuff. I think the Apostle Of Hustle is my next buy. I'm listening to it now off of the Arts&Crafts website and it's right up my alley. Good thread.

I've been listening to bits and pieces of the Danny The Dog soundtrack and I like it. Maybe even more than their last album...

Polaroid Girl and Right Way To Hold A Spoon in particular.

Yeah, the Apostle of Hustle album is very beautiful.
It features Feist & Amy from the Stars.
My band played a show with them this past fall... they are just as great live as on the album.

Have yet to hear the Massive Attack OST.

Hey polly six, you've probably heard the new Stars album, yes? Haven't really heard anything about it so what do you think of it? I'm not the hugest fan, but I picked them up from another board and do in fact like them quite a bit. Almost synthpop, which is one of my things so I'm curious.

Thanks,
jc
