Would "advanced thought" enable me to develop an endless arsenal of insults that I could use to desperately try to make myself look superior at any available opportunity, without ever having to try to present a real argument or worthwhile viewpoint in any discussion?

No, because you already have all that going for you.

I'm not trying to challenge any of your academic knowledge on the subject, specifically the physiological/psychological side of the "experience". I suppose for you "religious experience" is an academic term for this very concrete and clearly definable phenomenon, and in which case the fact that it is the same across the board with all religions is basically a non-issue. It really says nothing about their relative value or actual probability that they all act on the same capability of the human brain.

True, actual discussions of value don't really come up in brain research unless it regards what regions might be determining stimulus 'value'. The actual value itself is more of a sociological/anthropological type question, if one is speaking strictly academically of course. If you haven't, I strongly recommend reading William James' Varieties of Religious Experience or Michael Persinger's Neuropsychological Basis of God Beliefs. (Full disclosure on the latter author, he was my mentor in the late 90s. The book is not terribly well written but he anticipated the more recent interest in the neuroscience of religious experience by nearly 20 years. ) Either way, James' book is a true classic and a must for anyone even remotely interested in religion itself.

Anyway, debates here almost always seem to be people talking past each other, and I'm not really sure where I was going with this. I don't really expect Radcliffe to ever present any real reasoning to back up his arrogant little jabs, just to present an air of being "obviously in the right". It's nice that you'll actually elaborate on your views, but don't go thinking that you've "spoiled" anything for anyone. Science only conflicts with spiritual belief in so much as it can challenge preconceptions of the specific ways in which beliefs are understood.

If I thought I could actually spoil anyone's belief systems I would have gone the L. Ron route long ago.

It's been almost 3 years since the last tale of OT phenomena.

The Affirmation for October 6, 2010

No Motivator

I was working in a train wagon repair company and one day I decided to take a walk. I walked toward one of the warehouses which was on the other side of the yard. Beside the road were rails where they pushed the wagons into the concourse using a locomotive. When I came closer I saw a worker who was about to attach these wagons together. This is very dangerous and hard work. I put out a postulate that he will never suffer an accident while working. However, as a response I got a ridge! I had no clue what to do with the situation but I was sure it couldn't stay like this so I started to admire the situation. Suddenly I got a picture from him of a situation he and a former workmate were in and his mate had suffered an accident. This guy blamed himself for what happened. To punish himself, he was about to pull in a motivator.

Just a few days earlier I had read a success of an OT in the Advance! magazine who had helped one of his friends who had been badly injured and was stuck in an engram. The OT as-ised a mental picture and the problem disappeared. It was very interesting reading for me.

Now, I was standing there and I thought: I know it is possible, and if so, I am able to do it! The magnitude of my own intention surprised me! I put my TR 0 in, confronted the picture and I as-ised it - and it disappeared. It was unbelievable that I did it. Shortly after this, I put out a postulate again that he will never suffer from accidents at his job. The ridge was totally gone! Afterwards whenever I saw him he always had high affinity towards me. I knew I had saved him.

Z.Z.

Scientology phrase of the day:

"as-ised" - to imagine something as reality, as in... um, hmm, nothing leaps out at me as an immediate example.

Quote awarded the Unintentional Honesty Plaque of Valor:

"It was unbelievable that I did it"

...

you stood in a rail yard quietly staring at a guy for awhile, and afterwards he got all warm towards you? That's called a crush.

The Affirmation for October 6, 2010

Hard Disk

My computer broke down, which wouldn't have been very disastrous except for the fact that the hard disk apparently got damaged and no other computer would recognize it. Of course, I had not made a backup for a year - and I had more or less accepted that the data was lost and would have to be reconstructed. But then I decided that this was unacceptable and I just had to get the data out. I put all my intention into the hard disk. I started the computer - and the disk was recognized! I could copy all the data. Shortly after it went into error again but my purpose was accomplished and hundreds of hours were saved.

The Affirmation for October 16, 2010

Accident Averted

I was sitting on a bench in a parking lot in front of a supermarket, waiting for a friend and enjoying the beautiful day. All of a sudden I "saw" an accident: a car backing hard into a boy on a bicycle. I turned around and there was a car - backing up at about 15 mph (25 km per hour). And right behind it about nine feet (three metres) away, was the boy on his bicycle! I knew then that I'd "seen" the accident before it happened. I yelled "Whoa!" I wasn't sure the driver could hear me because the car was about 82 feet (25 metres) away and all the windows were rolled up. But the driver slammed on the brakes and stopped just before smashing into the boy. The driver got out of the car and checked to see if the boy was all right. He was okay - untouched by the car. About a dozen people were all watching this, but the driver turned around and looked right at me. She gave me a warm flow of relief and admiration and yelled, "Thanks, I hadn't seen him!" Yes, it truly was a beautiful day!

The Affirmation for October 19, 2010

Camera Bag

I went to an amusement park with my family. It was during the summer and there were thousands of people there. I had my camera bag with me as I was taking pictures, and all my camera equipment was in this bag. At the end of the day I noticed that I didn't have my camera bag! I remembered where I had left it and went back to check but it wasn't there. I went to the security booth and filed a report. I then decided that I would find the bag and told my family to go ahead without me, as I was going to find it.

I then put out a comm line to my camera bag, as I have a very good comm line to my MEST. I perceived that the bag was moving on the other side of the park. So I followed this perception and went to the other side of the park, as I knew it was there somewhere. When I got to where I perceived the camera bag was, I looked over and saw a woman holding it on her arm. I went over to her and told it was mine and she said, "Oh, I was just going to turn it in!" When I rejoined my family, they were amazed that I had found it.

G.B..

Scientology term of the day:

MEST - acronym for Matter, Energy, Space, and Time, the four aspects of reality that Operating Thetans claim to control, which they then put to use for truly important tasks like locating car keys and camera bags. Cancer? They'll cure it when they feel like it, fuckers.

The Affirmation for November 5, 2010

Hold That Plane!

I was on my way to catch the plane and was told that I wouldn't make it on time. I told them not to worry, that they wouldn't be able to close the doors until I got on the plane. I arrived at the airport 20 minutes late and asked the man at the desk if the plane had already gone and he said that he thought so. I asked him to check for us, and the plane was still there! He said that he didn't know why it was still there and rushed me and my baggage onto the plane. There were two mechanics working on fixing up the door to the plane, and as I walked through the door they were able to finally fix it! They were looking very puzzled and I heard them saying how strange it was because they didn't know what was wrong with it in the first place and had been trying to fix it for about 20 minutes.

The Affirmation for November 20, 2010

Key to the Cabinet

In a regular day-to-day office activity, I went to deliver some material which had just been printed in my print shop. A co-worker was disoriented and suddenly could not find the key to his cabinet. He checked all his pockets and was retracing his actions back, opening all drawers, moving papers, asking all his partners if they had the key - nothing, the key was lost and this was a big deal.

Other personnel in the area were pulled into it. A team searched all over - no key. I had to leave for a few minutes and expected on my return that he would have found the key. It wasn't like him to lose something like this - he is very meticulous with his work tools. By this point, he had become very nervous, permeating others around him with anxiety. It was late in the evening by now, yet he still had to set up production for the next day.

Upon my return a bit later, I observed all the misemotion and anxiety in the office. I heard what he had been doing to locate the key, unsuccessfully. I detached from the area and his despair. I stood in the room next to where the filing cabinet was, as well as all the hubbub of search activity. I just "looked" through the wall and within seconds perceived the key was lying inside the top drawer of a different locked cabinet located near the one with the "lost key".

I directed him to get the key for that other cabinet. He was reluctant and puzzled, saying it could not be there. I trusted myself and 8Ced him through. The drawer was packed full of file folders, each one packed full with papers. I directed him to move the folders towards the back and look underneath them and, lo and behold, THERE IT WAS! He had earlier been working in that cabinet and the key had fallen in the drawer without him noticing it.

Calm suddenly reigned and those around who had grown desperate with him in search of the key, stood in shock! "How did you do that?" Simple, I thought to myself - I am OT.

A.A.

Scientology Concepts of the Day:

misemotion - n, any emotional state other than smug, unearned, condescending superiority.

8C - v, to deploy one's sense of smug, unearned, condescending superiority upon a peer, spouse, co-worker, or family member
