I've never read the book, so I don't know how it stacks up against the source material--but a lot of people are criticizing this for being a dumbed down version. I could see that at certain points where the details seemed fairly glossed over and alleviated to maintain a certain pace--but from a strictly story POV, it moved fairly well. The acting wasn't horrible, though the actor that was chosen to play Bono was pretty bad and possibly only casted due to his similar appearance of a 70s/80s Paul Hewson. All in all, its not a horrible way to spend 90 mins. and if yr a U2 fan, or former U2 fan you'd probably dig it.

Maybe she's a serpent, & only needs one meal every six weeks, or some such.

But, I don't know, maybe you're right. Maybe Ritter could eat some Brie.

Even with Community euthanized, you still get your big cheese when Mad Men returns.

Had not heard that. Nor am I an NBC Thursday junkie -- I kicked that habit around the same time Newman went into Mulligatawny withdrawls. So, I wouldn't have known.

Not quite Hot Fuzz, but still pretty damn funny. Brendan Gleeson is the best.

The Muppet Movie
OK - it starts well goes slowly downhill, picks up again and fizzles
out towards the end - Amy Adams is the only real reason to see it

While I was bit hesitant on watching this since, being from Maryland I never had the pleasure of seeing the Rock-afire Explosion in action, the sheer curiosity factor caught me up. I would imagine some of you southern and Texas people might be familiar with Showtime Pizza and may have quite happy memories of the animatronic rock band show. This is a doc about them, but moreso about the cult phenomena of people who are fans and preservationists of a lost childhood memory. Kinda reminded me of King of Kong in a way.

For my own childhood animatronic rock band--we had a place called River Towne in Baltimore. It featured Captain Andy, a dog and his band seemingly straight out of a Creedence song. Same idea. Pizza, games and a band of animals. Good times. RIP.

Totally went to Showbiz Pizza a bunch when I was a kid, and yeah, seeing those animatronic characters brings back some memories. It turned into a Chuck-E-Cheese when I was older and all those characters were replaced.

I can't really imagine getting too nostalgic about that now. They look so creepy and weird.

Yeah, they talk about the crazy Chuck E. Cheese redesign in the doc. Sounded like a messed up situation.

i grew up in eastern pennsylvania and have many fond memories of the insanity of showbiz pizza. i saw the trailer for that on youtube, along with some of the ways those collectors have used the animatronic rock band. i should get around to watching it.

Personally, I wish they would've spent more time on the creator of the band, because he's completely a genius but has these quirks which make him an interesting character.

Watched this on Saturday and loved it. Brendan Gleeson is indeed the best.

I'm definitely watching the careers of director John Michael McDonagh as well as his brother, Martin, who did the excellent In Bruges. John Michael has a movie out in 2013 again with Brendan Gleeson and Martin has a movie Seven Psycopaths out this year with an excellent cast: Woody Harrelson, Colin Farrell, Abbie Cornish, Christopher Walken, Sam Rockwell, Olga Kurylenko, and Tom Waits.

What'd you think of Tree of Life?

Tree of Life probably should have been mentioned, but I never did finish it. I fell asleep with about 20/30 minutes to go. I think the film itself was gorgeous, but it just felt difficult as a whole. I equate this movie quite a bit to Synecdoche, NY which was critically acclaimed but I found to be not that enjoyable.

Bummer, yeah I thought it was absolutely gorgeous and gleaned a message that I felt made sense to me. Who knows what Malick was ultimately trying to say, but you know, that's one of the reasons I really loved it. Sometimes I think films really spoon feed the viewer and doesn't allow them the fun of figuring out whats going on, and what the meaning is. That pisses off a lot of people, who want their entertainment to be fairly innocuous. I just lean more the opposite.

I know what you mean, I feel that way too. This didn't speak to me at the time...I'll give it another shot eventually.
