i'm excited to release it into the wild

my schedule is weird these days so my studio time is from 5am to 730am. it's actually kind of nice mixing, editing, doing vokes, etc over hot coffee before it's even light out.

Maxi_EP is about right...

why not hold out and record two more songs, and consider it a full length?
or just take the best song from each EP, and add em to make it a 10 song full length effort?

that's not a bad idea. i could possibly re-record something from trash. i may have committed a release timeframe to an interested party is the only thing...

In this day and age, I think EP's are ognna become more and more accepted.....it's cheaper and easier to record 4-5 good songs without having to worry about filling out an entire record which people may not want.

Pretty neato. If you don't mind me asking, what's the process to getting to the final product, i.e. the ad; and what are your benefits?

an ad agency takes care of the actual commercial. someone from that agency reached out to my publisher at some point probably looking for a "mid-tempo rock swagger" or something of that ilk and they pitched Lifetaker. i get a one-time sync license fee out of it. the bad news is i'm still recouping from an advance i got several years ago with brazil. the good news is this sync pays over a third of it off. so i'm hoping to have a couple more placements this year and get that shit back in the black, then start throwing some dough into home studio upgrades. that whole EP was written and recorded in my living room, so i'm pretty proud of that. i aim to keep my work environs and ethics that way for the far foreseeable future.

no, only fees earned from licenses go against that recoupment total until it's paid off. i get semi-annual accounting statements that show what i've earned and where i'm at. i'm never expected to pay on this balance out of pocket like a car loan. it sounds like dastardly Big Music Business but it's typical and our advance in '06 was fortunately pretty small compared to the one they gave Lorde last year.

it's taken this long for me to eat into it because the only thing they've had to pitch over the last several years was brazil's last album (philosophy of velocity) and that label went under so they couldn't track down the master use copyright, severely limiting the possibilities. this autobody stuff is thankfully re-kickstarting the paydown process. finally.

yeah. i basically write and record various projects and send it over to them. they then pitch it to various agencies, film and tv music directors, trailer houses, etc etc with whom they have relationships. it's kind of a nice arrangement because i'm not beholden to a label currently, so i can do whatever i want at whatever speed i want without feeling a lot of pressure to...put out.

i think i might pursue label help at some point later this year. not sure, but i'd love some help getting things pressed, distributed and given a proper 3-4 month campaign. i don't ask for much. i've been out of the game so long, though, i have no idea how much of a pain in the ass it will be. i imagine myself like back in the college days desperately mailing out stacks of homemade demos every other day, like messages in bottles, as it were.

Autobody :: Indiana (Obner Exclusive 24-hour private stream)

Click me to listen.

TRACKLIST
1. Juggernaut
2. Bleed Out
3. Ripped
4. The Way to Dusty Death
5. Electric
6. Fugue

Bonus track: American Garage

Quote:
From the back roads and bare-lightbulb-lit garages of Indiana comes the cassette tape-era fetishismo of Autobody.

Channeling Deep Purple (if they grew up on punk 7”s and DIY ethics), Dirtbombs (if they grew up on a steady diet of LA death rock) and grindhouse film (if Russ Meyer had grown up in Harmony Korine’s Xenia, OH), Autobody combines the rawness of lo-fi punk with the nihilism of swamp blues, drenched in the gratuitous noise of the loudest amps on earth.

Autobody’s 2009 debut EP Trash was recorded with one microphone and borrowed equipment and consisted of the blistering punk rager “Ulcerated,” the anthemic swagger of “She’s On Fire” and the venomous organ outro of “Witch Doctoress.” Also included was a noise-laden cover of “7-Up and Whiskey,” a song released by his grandfather, Starday recording artist Jimmie Zack in 1956.

Following up on Trash, Autobody released the acclaimed Lifetaker EP - five songs of thumping noise rock that provided the score for a handful of dark highway stories about spectral muscle cars, shamanic truckers and apocalyptic shortwave radio stations. Despite still driving completely under the radar, the EP’s title track received national attention in campaigns for Coppertone, Brand 47 and film trailers.

2014 brings the release of Indiana, Autobody’s most extensive collection yet. The maxi-EP is another meaty cross-section of Autobody’s influences, from the pounding two-drumkit war dances of “Juggernaut,” “Bleed Out” and “Electric,” to the mangled garage punk of “Ripped,” to the sludge-oil heavy blues of “The Way to Dusty Death.”

Before the year is up, Autobody will have also released a full length called Young Tobacco, and followed it up with another EP called Witches.

Another home recording by yours truly. Lemme knowtchall think :rawk:

Hey fellas, fellettes and fellatios!

Here's the newest project from YTR, called City Water. It's way diff'ernt than Autobody, but hopefully some of you ambient/minimal/neo-classical junkies will appreciate it.

Quote:
City Water is an Indiana-based composer, producer and conceptual artist whose music is founded in ambient minimalism and neo-classical piano. Darkly poetic and lyrically sparse, each release is a collection of introspective moods and haunting soundscapes.

The debut EP “1” consists of six tracks, from the Satie-inspired To Sleep, the haunting drone of Pulse and the weightless assemblage of Signal, to the despondent Mountains and The Scream, to the funereal coda Firmament. Influenced by artists such as Harold Budd, Goldmund, Dead Can Dance and Bark Psychosis, “1” is a cryptic and melancholy confessional wrapped in a fever dream of hazy delay and warm saturation.

City Water’s upcoming second EP, titled “2,” takes a turn down a dark alley of sparse and minimal jazz, incorporating elements of freeform and drone into a Lynchian pastiche of wind, trees and piano.
