Are there any acid reflux sufferers on this board who've had success with any over the counter medications? If so, list what has worked for you. Obviously I'll ignore what you say and listen to my (hot) doctor, but I'd still like to hear what you have to say.

I've got it pretty friggin' bad, but I take a Costco clone of an over-the-counter med, & it does alright. I can't remember which one it's a clone of brand name-wise, but the actual medicine is called Ranitidine. 75 mg, twice a day ( with breakfast & supper ) .

Aside from that, I've found what works best is staying away from consuming the things your doctor sez to stay away from. I haven't had coffee or beer in years, & it sucks. Not as much as a bad stomach attack, though. And nothing's 100 % ...but my plan is roughly 85% - 90% effective for me.

No problem....BTW, the Costco stuff I mentioned runs only like, $5.99 for 240 pills - which is nice.

Feel free to ask any other questions you might have. Unfortunately, I'm an old hand at this stuff. :x

Yeah, I have it really bad. I've had to eliminate a lot from my diet in the past three mos since my dr diagnosed me with it.

Stay away from anything tomato based. I can't eat pizza or pasta anymore. it sucks.

I've also eliminated caffeine and don't drink hardly as much ever ESPECIALLY beer. Lunchmeats etc will irritate it too.

I take Zantac 75 whenever it acts up and it's before bedtime. Helps me sleep without being in agony.

In the daytime my dr reccomended Tums over Rolaids, rolaids are found to actually irritate a little bit.

I also have a prescription for Nexium but I haven't filled it yet since she said as long as I work at staying away from the bad foods I won't need it just yet.

Cigs will wreak havoc as well. I had Gastitis (where the acid pumps in the stomach are spitting out too much acid?) and I ate papaya or peppermint to help ease it. I was still on Rx antacids for almost a year.

Charli - have you done the "raise the bed" thing yet? That helps - along with making sure you don't eat a good 3 hours or so before you hit the hay.

Also - with the over the counter meds ( Zantac, Pepcid, the Costo stuff I take, etc ) ...I started out taking them when I had a flare-up, but found them to be much more effective the way I take 'em now ( in a more "preventitive" fashion ) .

OTC stands for Over The Counter and for Olivia Tremor Control. I hope this helps in some small way.

So are you recommending an herbal remedy such as Black Foliage?
