I'd only need the first 3 VU albums.

Tough call. I really appreciate the wide-ranging variety of the Talking Heads, but I need to OD on "Sweet Jane" at least once a year.

Why is this even a question?
Talking Heads

VU had four great-to-really good albums. Can't knock them on that. But the Heads body of work doesn't fall off as quick and there's more development from beginning to end. Throw on "Sands In The Vaseline" and this debate gets ended very quick.

Though sometimes you are too obscurantist for me, in the case of mainstream bands, you're erudition is appreciated.

Another toughie, but I chose VU. Probably because fewer albums made for fewer missteps.

Heads, all the way. I know they're great and all, but I think of VU as a stage John Cale needed to go through so he could make the albums of his I love later.

Major tough decision for me. I went Heads for the 8 albums vs. 4 albums reason, although you could say that the Heads only have 4 albums that match the quality of VU's 4.

Plus I fell for the Heads when I was like 19, didn't work my way back to the Velvets until several years late, so the Heads and I have had a longer romance.

I only consider 5 TH albums to be "back catalogue", supplemented by two excellent live deals. They stopped mattering after "Speaking In Tongues".

It's a tough one, but I'm sticking with Fear of Music.
