It's crazy but true. I just think his solo career has bit dusty camel bag. Owning those 8 albums is a testament to how much I want to like him. But apart from a few scattered songs (some of the VU leftovers on his solo debut, a couple songs on Transformer, maybe half of Coney Island Baby, and some of the passages on Blue Mask and New York when Lou shuts up and lets the band play) there really isn't much I like about the guy's post VU catalogue.

I've got Berlin, Transformer, Lou Reed, The Blue Mask, Growing Up In Public, New Sensations, Coney Island Baby, and New York. I seem to recall selling Street Hassle and The Bells decades ago.

Most of the ones that don't interest me I just say "Oh, those are actually Lisa's cds, not mine," even if I bought them.

Somehow I deemed it necessary to amass 6 or so Catherine Wheel CDs and probably like about 7 songs out of the whole lot.

Hmmmmm,

Mostly, I have bands that I liked well enough at one time to buy everything. Because I collect stuff, I tend to buy everything I can. Hence I end up with stuff I don't ever play simply to maintain a discography.

IS THAT SO WRONG???

I mean, I really really do need to own Thomas Dolby's "The Dissidents" re-mix single, don't I?

I like to think I know when to call it quits, though. I stopped buying any of Robyn Hitchcock's stuff after "Perspex Island". His live shows had gone to shit by then, I actually left shows in an angry mood because he had sucked so hard, and this from a person who afforded the man god-like status.

I stopped buying The Jazz Butcher after "Condition Blue", as his studio stuff became crap. He still brought it live, though.

Adam Ant falls into the same category. Anything after Prince Charming is pretty yucky. I'm only guilty of keeping a used copy of Friend or Foe on vinyl.

I have too many Black Sabbath records. "Technical Ecstacy" is definitely supernumerary.

I have too many Gary Numan albums. I don't know why I allow "Dance" and "I, Assassin" to suck up shelf space.
