Tell me about your favorite Oktoberfest, Martzen, Pumpkin Ale, "Fall" beer varieties.

I had a Spaten Oktoberfest yesterday. It was tasty.

oh well the bavarians... interesting what they export to you. but this is much stronger than what you usually drink as beer isn't it?

stronger in terms of alcohol content or stronger as in "more substance than Bud Light"?

It's about normal for "good" beer, which is what 90% of the people on this board probably drink. Full flavor, well-made, more than 5% alcohol. But it's not much compared to the good stuff here (Bell's, Rogue, Dogfish, et. al.)

It was more about the taste, yes. it's interesting that there is much more influence of english brewing in the US than of german. maybe even more belgian, what do you think?

There's a lot more hippies that put loads of hops in their microbrews because hops are in the cannabis family. That's the main influence in microbreweries over here. I dislike all beers with load of hops.

If it's a lager or pilsner - I want something crisp, with a smooth aftertaste, not ultra-bitter and dry like an IPA or Pale Ale.

If it's dark lager or ale - I wanted roasted malts and chocolate

If it's a "warm weather" beer, I want a Wheat/Wit Beer (Belgian) style ale.

You and I have fairly identical tastes in beer.
Overhopping a beer is a truly unforgivable sin.

While I enjoy the mega-hopped stuff too, hopping is a very easy way to put some sort of flavor in your beer without being especially good at brewing. It's harder to get the subtle flavors out of combinations of types and roasts of malt and wheat than it is to just dump something with a high Alpha number into your beer shortly before shutting off the burners.

On of my favorite lagers and one I think is very underrated is Red Stripe. It has an almost sweet aftertaste.

I mean I'll drink just about anything except over-hopped beers and ales (Sierra Nevada Pale Ale/Sweetwater 420 - YUCK) and lambics.

Has anyone tried the Abita Pecan Harvest?

I'm not a fan. I think it's pretty terrible because the pecan taste is overwhelming. I thought it tasted more beer flavored pecan drink.

People lose their shit for it here. They were actually limiting how many you could buy at some places because it's so popular. I find that it really varies from year to year and I found this year a little too sweet. A couple of years ago it was perfect if you like this kind of thing.

Breaking a week-long abstinence tonight with a 12 pack of Stella, because nothing else in the store was even drinkable.
