But, if we drop keepers for this year, can we have them next year?

I already see in Pape's comments reticence to the idea.

I'd be good with next year.

So, I get ahead of myself. Again.

But, as any Cubs fan would tell me -- wait 'til next year.

Still have a question about this season's draft order. Is it based on last season's results? Warrior Sprites finished two places above me last season, yet this season drafts one place before me. What gives?

How far you got into the playoffs should be a factor.

RE: draft order

I attempted to place the teams that have tended to poorer performance in the last handful of years toward the top, & the higher achievers toward the bottom. It was not inverse order of finish so much as tendencies. Thus, GoTeamVenture & Warrior Sprites, who have never won, drafting low, while Schadenfreude, who starts out strong but peters out, goes high.

If that's the case, I've been doing worse that I thought over the past bunch of years.

Also, based on your logic, why do you pick last then, Monty?

Commissioner cannot slot himself anywhere where it might seem to be bias or playing favourites.

In fairness, subjectivity should be taken out of it. It should be in reverse order of performance with new people going first. I should be going last as reigning champion. :D

I agree. Just like your keeper "rules", this is far too subjective. You need to stick to being as objective as possible. Unless you can come up with actual stats to back up your draft assignments, it should be based on either last season's finish or random. Your gut feeling should not be a consideration.

So, we have pre-assigned draft order? Can somebody enlighten me on how to see where I am in the order?

It's under the "Draft Central" heading. Click on draft results (I think- can't check from work. It's in there somewhere).

Fa! I randomized the draft order, per Ignacio.

We will know the order on draft-nite.

Draft tomorrow evening!

Only 12 teams this year? If so, I might finish better than 14th!

SO I was thinking about keepers, and how it might work for next year. What if, if you decide to keep a player, you forfeit your pick in whatever round you originally picked that player? For example, this year I took Adam Dunn in the 13th round. If he has the rebound I hope he does, next year I will be able to give up my 13th pick to keep him. My first round pick, Matt Kemp, will require my forfeiting next year's 1st round pick to keep him, regardless of the year he has.

To my mind, this system would reward late-round gambles, while also making 1st and 2nd round picks tempting to release.

I don't know how mid-season replacement pickups would work, or trades... but I for one would prefer a set, transparent value for players, removed from any commissioner's subjectivity. (no offense, Monty) What ideas does everyone else have? I think it would be better, for everyone, if we get some guidelines and rules set up as early as possible.

Let's just require everyone keeps 2 people from their draft for next year, in the rounds they selected by them. This turned into a small nightmare when we did this in one of my football leagues because in your example, nobody would be allowed to draft Dunn which leaves him on the table until the 13th round. When he does bounce back this year, he will be ranked much higher so the autodraft will take him earlier, unless you can populate the draft with the keepers in their specified rounds before the draft begins.

I think in the Yahoo draft, if I chose to keep Dunn next year he wouldn't show up as a potential pick in the system - he would appear as if he'd already been drafted. My 'keeping' him would remove him from the table.

I'd hate to force anyone to keep 2, or limit the number to only 2. A lot of later round picks could be considered investments in the future years, and limiting us to 2 total keepers would probably be concentrated in the first half-dozen rounds or so. Timmy picked up Johan Santana in the 21st round this year, and if Santana can stay healthy he could go much higher next year - but if you had only 2 keepers, would you use 1 in the 21st round?

my football systems is fairly easy and works well.

if you draft a keeper you lose the round two rounds ahead of where they were picked, and as such you can't keep anyone in the first two rounds.
