Everyone knows 'How Soon Is Now' or 'Rain' are brilliant; what I'm looking for is lesser known B-sides which are great. Let's get a list going.

I'll start with Morrissey 'Nobody Loves Us'. I remembered this track last night when I was playing 'You Are The Quarry'. It appeared as a B-side on the UK single version of 'Dagenham Dave'. I really love the shimmering, whoosing effect on the guitars. It has something of an anthemic chorus and the lyric is The Moz taking a wry stab at his own reputation for being miserable.

Manic Street Preachers ripped this track off wholesale for 'If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next', but Mozza's 'original' is miles better.

I think I'm going to go hunting through my singles today...

One of my all-time favorite B-sides is
Sugar - Needle Hits "E"
and it is most certainly my favorite song by Sugar, period

Speaking of Sugar/Bob Mould:
Hüsker Dü - Eight Miles High (Byrds cover)
Hüsker Dü - Love Is All Around (Mary Tyler Moore theme cover)

And:
They Might Be Giants - James K. Polk
Pixies - Winterlong

I can't think of others right now, but I'm sure I will later.

By the way, that Pixies song (in case you didn't know) is also available on a Neil Young tribute record that is pretty fucking great. Off the top of my head, some of the better versions of songs on there include:

Nick Cave - "Helpless" (simply awe-inspiring)
Flaming Lips - "After the Gold Rush"
Bongwater - "Mr. Soul"

Of course, there are weak tracks, too. But it's, overall, pretty damn good.

Sorry for the brief hijack... back to the B-Sides!

Silver Jews "I'm Gonna Love The Hell Out Of You" is really good...
Thought I'd point out a more recent one...
