Anyway, if you don't want to read about my personal life, then stop reading now!

OK then...a few weeks ago, I met this really cool guy and out of the blue, he called me Saturday and asked me out. So, without a second thought, I said yes and there I was...getting ready for a date. We met, we drank, we talked, we ate, in other words, we had a fabulous time. Towards the end of the evening, he asked me if I wanted to head over to his place. Now, I immediately got nervous and started to think too much. After accepting his invite, we took off and headed to his place. Once there, we got comfortable, and he started undressing. Well I was very excited and aroused....until he took off his shoes. Not for nothing but I realize some guys have foot odors but when you start gagging because of the smell, then it's time to do something about it. I didn't say anything about the smell but he noticed my displeasure with the whole situation and mentioned that he had gone to the gym earlier...uhhhh...so then , I thought to myself, this guy went to the gym, and then met me without taking a shower....uhhh yuck! So at that moment, I decided that I really didn't wanna be around when he took off his underwear so I excused myself and went home. I wasn't rude about it but I made it clear that I wasn't exactly feeling sexual under the circumstances.

My question to you is, did I overreact? Or was I right to leave? If you know me at all, you know that hygiene is very important to me and I understand men will be men but I won't tolerate a smelly man.

He should have excused himself to shower first. or you should have offered.

If you're turned off, you're turned off.

These situations can be handled with tact, but it is difficult. Since it doesn;t seem like you're interested in seeing him again (you were insulted, I take it) I don't think it really matters the amount of tact, in this case.

If you ARE interested in seeing him again, than give the guy a call and open up a dialogue about your feelings about hygiene. If he balks or remains offended, he's not the guy for you anyway... move on.

Or suggest that you get it on in the shower.

That's pretty disgusting. If a girl, on a first date, took off her shoes and her feet were rank...I'd probably be a little grossed out too. If it had been on the second date and the first one went without a hitch, I'd probably just tell her and be cool about it.

Pleeeeaaase...we were only gonna have some tea.

Anyway, I'm pretty bummed out about it though cause he seemed like such a nice guy. I just don't understand the mentality of someone who goes to the gym, sweats, and then doesn't take a shower before a date. I mean, has anyone here ever done that before?

that is pretty understandable. ack. that is one of many reasons I couldn't be gay - men have stank feet.

i am just glad this didn't turn into a story about taking a shit in a bus.

If buddy can't take the time to properly clense himself before going on FIRST DATE then here's hoping he never has sex again. I showered before every first date I ever went on. How many times did I get some? Incosistently. What a schmuck.

You've obviously never spent any time with a woman who works all day in pantyhose. :wtf:

I totally agree. Why do pantyhose smell so bad?

If you really liked the guy and you two were already in a state of undress, I would've suggested showering together.

I would have totally bailed, and I think it's a little weird not to shower before a date. Strike one!

Ditto. And it is totally weird that he didn't shower before a date ESPECIALLY if he went to the gym before!!!

It really is totally assumed that he didn't take a shower. He never really said that he didn't a take a shower. Only that he had gone to the gym earlier in the day. Is it possible, he took a shower and perhaps wore the same socks from the gym. If thats the case, I'd be more disgusted.

So, when you politely expressed your concerns, how did he react?

Did he offer to shower then? Can he redeem himself?

Yeah, that's even worse.... and is it just me, or if someone has really ugly feet, it's just a turn-off? Yes, I get turned off by men with ugly feet. I don't know. It just bothers me.

It was really one of the silent awkward moments, where we both knew what was going on but weren't willing to say. I was totally embarrassed for him so I thought the best possible way to end this awkward moment is to just leave and not say too much to make things worse. I'm not exactly very subtle with my facial expressions so when he took off his shoes, he knew what I was thinking. I just didn't want to make him feel uncomfortable so I left without making it a big deal.

I'm just not a feet person to begin with. Feet totally disgust me but I've learn to deal with it. Some men take care of their feet while others who work construction or have jobs where they stand all day have nasty feet. I try to be understanding but I also refuse to touch, play with, suck on or lick anybody's feet.

Ugh, that's absolutely disgusting. I hope you don't try to romance your woman like that.
